Dear Cheyenne,

In order to provide a more flexible and equitable process for students who need to withdraw from classes during their academic careers, a Task Force consisting of student representatives, key campus stakeholders, and the advising community was established to evaluate the withdrawal policy at UAB. As a result of this year-long review, the following changes will be in effect starting with the Fall 2019 term:

• Implementation of a full-term withdrawal that extends beyond the current course withdrawal deadline
• Establishment of a graduated refund schedule for students who must withdraw from UAB early in a term
• Creation of a Voluntary Medical Withdrawal Policy to accommodate students who experience a medical hardship
