SUBJECT: Mandatory Health Insurance

Dear Cheyenne,

UAB students must have health insurance to ensure access to quality healthcare. 

This requirement is for any student enrolled in a degree-seeking program who meets the following criteria:

• Undergraduate registered for 9+  hours
• Graduate – determined by program
• International
• Clinical regardless of credit hours

If you currently have health insurance, it must comply with UAB's comparable care standards found on the Student Health Services website.

If your current insurance coverage meets the standards, you must submit an Insurance Waiver through the Patient Portal on the Student Health Services website. If the waiver is approved, you are compliant and will not be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan.

If you do not have health insurance that meets the standards, you will be enrolled in the UAB Student Health Insurance Plan and the premium will be charged to their student account.  

Submit the waiver prior to July 1^st, 2018 to ensure that you are not charged for the Student Health Insurance Plan prior to the payment deadline for Fall 2018.  For more information, click HERE.
